David Logan on tribal leadership

David Logan is an expert in the practice of understanding people’s communication within a company.

In this talk, he explains how five kinds of tribes are naturally formed by humans. Each tribe is in a stage. So, there are five stages.

The first one, is the lowest one and we need to learn from it. This stage produces people who do horrible things. After this stage comes stage two, this is when people do every kind of thing to survive even if that means undermining other people. The next stage is number three, this is the one that many of us are in. In this stage everyone says “I’m the best. And you’re not”. The difference between stage three and four it is that in number four we say “we’re great” nstead of saying “I’m great”. Finally, the headline of number five says that “life is great”. The people in this stage are the ones that change the world.

In conclusion, everyone wants to stay in stage five but most of them there are not: 2% are in stage one,25% are in stage two, 48% are in stage three, 22% are in stage four and 2% are in stage five.
